Castlefield Clinic Face & Body 2011 Finalists Get Ready with Glamazon, Alex Leigh!

Jenny Frost was transformed into Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe and Sixties supermodel Twiggy when she helped Manchester’s Castlefield Clinic celebrate 20 years in business and launched their search for the North-West's next top model.

After a scouting day at Epernay Champagne Bar and an abundance of entrants, the judges have deliberated and the results are in. Congratulations Reem Al-Nawassri, Charlotte Kearney, Madelaine Tootill, Harry Ashby, Gavin Fawcett, Lloyd Bramwell, and Adam Wallace who have made it to the final.

Managing Director, Nishant Agarwal, explained: “It’s been a genuinely tough choice with so many great candidates who were not only fantastic looking people, but all had some amazing stories that made them beautiful on the inside.”

In preparation for next Wednesday’s competition final taking place at the clinic’s 20th anniversary celebration in Manchester 235 Casino, the finalists were invited to meet international model and actress, Alex Leigh, to teach them how to work the catwalk and give them the best chance of being crowned the winner.

After 15 highly successful years of preening and posing for the likes of Cosmopolitan, Harpers & Queen, Vogue and Dazed & Confused, Alex shared her tips from the model industry with the Face and Body finalists. The enthusiastic hopefuls gained a unique insight into the world of modelling as Alex helped each of them by giving advice and tips on everything from styling, diet and exercise, confidence and self esteem to photo shoot posing and catwalking.

Accompanied by celebrity stylist, Shaya Faz, the current Miss Manchester 2011, Nicola McConnell, photographer, Jade Corker, and new Castlefield Clinic Spa manager, Suzanne Barker, the finalists enjoyed a series of expert consultations from hair and beauty tips, to talks on fashion, confidence and making the most of your body shape.

STYLE etc. would like to wish each of the 8 finalists the best of luck for next Wednesday, and will be eagerly waiting to see who will be crowned the winners of Castlefield Clinic Face & Body 2011… particularly as they will be starring in a fashion shoot and gracing our winter season front cover!

Spring/Summer Inspiration from Victoria Beckham

Inspiration from expecting a baby girl or just wanting to dip her fashion savvy fingers into something a little different this Spring/Summer? What ever the reason is behind Victoria Beckham’s designs for her new collection, one things for sure she’s embracing her girlie-side.

With flowing folds, fishtail hems and skimming A-lines accentuating the female figure, these dresses are far from Victoria’s usual formal tight-cut designs. Even celebrities can’t get enough of her collections with the likes of Eva Longoria, Kate Winslet, Camilla Belle and Jennifer Hudson to name but a few, being the latest to don her red carpet worthy dresses.

But purse friendly people fear not! The collection is to include a range of lower priced dresses, a little more accessible for us everyday shoppers wanting a piece of A-list clothing for Spring/Summer!

This event is set to be the UK's ultimate urban swim festival and features a 25m outdoor pool and a beach.

The UK's ultimate urban swim festival, which is the brainchild of Olympic medallist Steve Parry, builds on the success of the British Gas 'Pools 4 Schools' project held on the south bank of the River Thames in London during 2009, which taught over 2,000 people to swim in just four weeks.

Launching the latest initiative to get more people to enjoy swimming, Steve Parry said:"The British Gas Big Dip offers swimming for all the family and so much more - in fact all the fun of the beach is being taken into two iconic British cities. There's a real focus on teaching people to swim and also sessions which will give people more confidence in the water.

"People who come to the attraction will be able to see England's Volleyball team, exercise and try new activities including giant slides and zorbing pools. There will also be a beach area for non-swimmers with volleyball sessions, yoga, pilates and kids competitions."

Andrew Hogan brand director from British Gas said, "The British Gas Big Dip is a fun and active day out for all the family. Everyone is welcome and British Gas customers will also receive a voucher to take part in one of the extra activities for free."

David Robinson, Speedo brand president said:"We're delighted to be backing this event and we are sure people will take advantage of the fantastic activities that are available for all the family to enjoy. There's so much to do that even the weather won't spoil the fun."

Get The Royal Wedding Look with Bobbi Brown

With the Royal Wedding freshly (and forever) imprinted in our minds and the fever of it still being rife and under no allusion of dying down any time soon, we turned to make-up masters Bobbi Brown to see how they would recreate that Royal Wedding Look, fit to bag a Prince (well we can dream cant we?)

Here's how to create those royal-worthy wedding looks for yourself for the bride, maid of honour and mother of the bride, courtesy of Bobbi:

The centrepiece herself aka the Bride:

1. Start with clean, fresh skin. Even out skin tone with Corrector, Concealer and Foundation.

2. Sweep Ivory Eye Shadow all over the lid.

3. Apply Rockstar Metallic Eye Shadow on the lower lid.

4. Blend Slate Eye Shadow into the crease.

5. Line upper and lower lash lines with Black Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, making sure that the top line is thicker than the bottom.

6. Brush on two coats of Black No Smudge Mascara.

7. Smile and sweep Pale Pink Blush on the apples of the cheeks.

8. Dust Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick high on the cheekbones.

9. Apply Sandwash Pink Lip Color on lips, followed by Crystal Gloss.
The lady to impress, the Mother of the Bride:

1. Start by giving the skin a clean, natural glow with Corrector, Concealer and Foundation.

2. Apply Bone Eye Shadow from brow to lash line.

3. Keep the eyes beautifully natural by sweeping Long Wear Cream Shadow in Cement across the lower lid.

4. Define the upper lash line with Long Wear Gel Eye Liner in Caviar.

5. Finish the eyes with two coats of No Smudge Mascara in Black.

6. For the perfect pop of colour on the cheeks, try Blush in a fresh shade like Apricot.

7. Lips are kept soft and natural with a swipe of Brownie Lip Colour.

No bride would be complete without her Maid of Honour:

1. Begin by applying Corrector, Concealer and a little bit of Foundation for beautifully even skin.

2. Warm up the face with a skin-tone-correct Bronzer.

3. Sweep Bone Eye Shadow across the entire lid.

4. Apply Long Wear Cream Shadow in Ash on the lower lid only.

5. Perfectly define the eyes with Long Wear Gel Eye Liner in Black Ink on the top and bottom lash lines.

6. Open and curl the lashes with two coats of Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara.

7. Play up the cheeks with Blush in Sand Pink.

8. Softly brush a Highlighter Pen high onto the cheek bones for added definition and shimmer.

9. Apply Blondie Pink Lip Color on the lips, followed by Confetti Lip Gloss.

Manchester’s glitterati and fashion elite came out in abundance for the grand unveiling of the opening of the new Nicky Clarke salon at Spinningfields, Manchester on Thursday 31st March.

Guests were treated to a canapés fuelled reception including cupcakes by Manchester cupcakery Hey Little Cupcake! and delicious cocktails provided by The Alchemist, whilst browsing the exclusive art pieces, all being available to purchase. The evening was also supportive of a good cause, with ample funds raised from the evening being kindly donated to the night’s chosen children’s charity, St. Francis House. Showing their support, appearances were made by many TV faces from the cast of Hollyoaks, Premiership Footballer, Morten Gamst Pedersen and England Cricketer James Anderson to name a few. With the salon team in Manchester being one of the finest in the city, in conjunction with the new arrival of celebrity brow and hand beauty specialist, Jo Pallan, the new salon is sure to become one of Manchester’s must stop beauty destinations.

Makeup Masterclass at Castlefield Clinic

Recently the STYLE etc. team were invited to brush up on our beauty skills in a Makeup Masterclass at Castlefield Clinic, Manchester. Lead by Hannah Porter, the clinic's own Skincare Specialist and Therapist, we were introduced to the wonders of Jane Iredale Mineral Make-up...

Jane Iredale is the president and founder of Iredale Mineral Cosmetics. She was the first to supply the aesthetics industry with a full-line of makeup based on minerals and the first to see the potential of offering physicians a makeup that was good for the skin. She has worked with world-renowned plastic surgeons and dermatologists in the development of her line and lectures all over the world on its benefits.

Before she formed her cosmetics company in 1994, Jane Iredale's background had been in film, theatre and television. Her experience in working with women whose careers depended on a clear complexion has allowed her to see how skin disorders and sensitivities not only threaten careers but can also destroy self-confidence. This is what led her to develop a makeup line that could contribute to the lives of women by aiding the health of the skin.

In the clinic, ourselves and eagerly awaiting guests took our seats, preparing for a taster of the Jane Iredale range in action via an expert demonstration from Hannah. Working her magic on her willing model - her lovely mum! - Hannah gave her a radiant, glowing look which still looked natural rather than overly made up. The make-up looked lightweight, giving even coverage whilst creating a flawless but natural looking complexion - a tricky combination that can be hard to find in typical make-up brands! Hannah demonstrated how the range can be easily transformed from day to night with it being ideal to slowly build up a more dramatic "evening" look.

The make-up range is also pretty extensive covering everything from a lash conditioner to a lip balm which doubles as a lip exfoliator, as well as accommodating for a wide range of skin tones! The demonstration spoke volumes with the excited ladies clamouring to sign up to one and one consultations with Hannah to sample the makeover experience for themselves! Castlefield Clinic only offers group bookings - ideal to book for a day out with the girls!

P.S The make-up brushes are amazing yet really affordable too!

Tennis and Fine Jewellery - A Match Made in Heaven at the Launch of The Classique

Last Monday, tennis teamed up with Britain's finest jewellers Boodles, in honour of the launch of the region's upcoming and most exclusive tennis event, The Classique.

The inaugural Classique is the most exclusive event in the North West for 2011, combining world class tennis with superior hospitality, all set amongst the grandeur of De Vere Mottram Hall in Cheshire. Where tennis legends from around the globe will entertain you and your guests on a purpose built grass court, viewed from your own private box.

English mixed doubles champion and tennis legend Jeremy Bates, who will be playing the event in June, was on hand promoting and acting as host for the evening. Other tennis heavy weights so far confirmed to play at The Classique include; former French National Championship finalist, Cedric Pioline and former Wimbledon winner, Richard Krajicek.

Boodles' Manchester store was kitted out under a tennis theme, which went down a storm with the party go-ers, including innovative flower and tennis ball arrangements and even two male models in full tennis gear, which provided some additional eye candy alongside the jewellery for us female guests. Canapes were also very British and so tennis appropriate, in the form of rich little English cakes and scones, adding a traditional but delicious touch.

The lovely Boodles girls even invited us to pick out a piece of jewellery to wear for the evening from their infamous glass cabinets and we needed no further encouragement - the most fitting expression would be "kids in a candy shop." Jewellery highlights for the STYLE etc. team included a stunning, whimsical brooch from the Boodles Wonderland collection and a jaw-dropping emerald cocktail ring which racked up a price tag of £139,000! One for the wishlist perhaps girls?

To browse Boodles collection for yourself please visit: http://www.boodles.com/

The Classique will be taking place between Wednesday 8th June and Friday 10th June at De Vere Mottram Hall.

Success is Sugary Sweet at the Hey Little Cupcake! Launch

Last Thursday evening the STYLE etc. team were invited out for a sugar rush, to celebrate the opening of Manchester's latest new cupcakery Hey Little Cupcake!

Created by artistic soul Sarah Wilson, Hey Little Cupcake combines her love of baking with her passion for travelling, by creating a selection of treats inspired by places she has visited around the globe.

Cue launch night, we braved the baltic Manchester weather to walk up the store's rolled out and delightfully pink carpet, for an evening of cupcakes galore with cocktails courtesy of The Alchemist. On arrival we were given a tiny gold key and told - something so small left such a big impact and we were immediately enamoured. It is this sort of attention to detail where the Hey Little Cupcake! brand holds his strength and lies the key to their success (if you'll excuse the pun!) placing them leagues ahead of the compeition within the cult cupcake movement.

The store itself not only churns out endless variations of mouth-watering cupcakes, but also doubles as an art gallery showcasing a series of artwork under the cute, girly and of course cupcake theme. Stepping into the store can only be described as stepping into every girls dream - the charmingly adorable decor, abundance of pastel shades and hot pink chess board flooring resulted in a welcome "cute overdose."

As expected, the range of cupcakes on offer were a sensation with flavours differing from anything from chocholate sponge, topped with mounds of Smarties, choc chips, marshmellows and Malteasers with 'Rocky Road,' to the more exclusive signature pieces with the 'New Yorker,' aptly named as inspired by Sarah's travels. On the drinks side, The Alchemist also held their own doing an amazing job on the gorgeous cocktails, which were embellished with brightly coloured flower petals encased in the drinks floating ice cubes - a talking point on their own!

We arrived eager for a sugar fix and we were not dissapointed, leaving with our sweet tooths considerably matched after many cries of "Oh go on, one more cant hurt..."

Forget those diets, unbutton those jeans top buttons and check out Hey Little Cupcake! if you dare!

Hey Little Cupcake! is located on Little Quay Street, Spinningfields. For more info on the brand visit: www.heylittlecupcake.co.uk

Harvey Nichols Spring/Summer '11 Fashion Show

Thursday the 10th Feb marked an exciting date in any Manchester fashionistas calendar. The date when the fashion gliterratti of Manchester gathered together for Harvey Nichol's Spring/Summer '11 Fashion Show, held at one of the city's most impressive landmarks and cultural hot spots; the Manchester Art Gallery.

The evening was hosted by Lanvin clad, TV reporter Elaine Wilcox of Granada Television, who kicked off the show for the fashion hungry guests - who after suffering so much dreary cold and wet Manchester weather, were eagerly awaiting some Spring/Summer inspiration! From DJ Xander's cue, models took stomping to the runway presenting the fashion concious of Manchester with an array of key trends from the upcoming season.

Of the 10 showcased trends that filtered down the runway, the highlights included:

Sportsluxe, an everyday, casual style that although is easily wearable is not lacking in the fashion stakes, where soft grey marl track pants and sweat tops are accessorised with practical but cool Casio watches and dressed up with an oversized Balenciaga leather shoulder bag for a tougher edge.

Swim Club showcased Matthew Williamson beach perfect batik prints, alongside coral floor length styles where the lack of clothes was made up for in accessories, with platform wedges all the better for keeping sand off those freshly mannicured toes, larger than life canvas beach bags and oversized sunglasses.

Seventies Sophistication saw a flurry of exotic prints with an abundance of Roberto Cavalli maxi dresses and sheer kaftans floating down the runway teamed with metallic clutch bags, turning models into human gilded butterflies. The show ended with the rightly named Rainbow Nation - think Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat goes Haute Couture, leaving guests so dazzled by neon colour hues it was enough to make anyone reach for their designer shades to shield their eyes.

Styling wise, the models hair was attended to by experts at Urban Retreat and Barn//it at Harvey Nichols and nails were buffed and polished by Leighton Denny, while the fingers of the Harvey Nichol's NARS team worked their magic on the models makeup.

Special guests attending the event included Emily Jagielka, Carly Cole, Jane Given, Winonah De Jong and Sophie Anderson, who all attended to show their support and get an eyeful of the fashion on offer.

Not only wardrobe inspiring and potentially bank balance damaging, the evening was also supportive of a good cause with £10 from every ticket purchases being donated to Manchester Art Gallery, helping support their varied and valuable Art Projects.

Once the catwalk had ended, guests were invited to head back to the Harvey Nichols store with credit cards at the ready, for complimentary after show drinks and the chance to shop the show. VIP guests were even chauffeured there via London Red Bus and treated to a meal in the Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant.

Hello sunshine!
